Twifo Praso, Nov. 11, GNA - Residents of Anogyan, a suburb of Twifo Praso, have appealed to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to stop Zain, a mobile phone service provider, from putting up its antenna close to their buildings.
As much as we need an improved telecommunication system in the town, the serviced provider must consider the impact of the antenna on our health, Mr. Kwaku Mensah, a resident, told the GNA in an interview.
Mr. Mensah said when Zain started fixing the antenna close to the bungalow of a medical officer, the district assembly's Public Works Department Engineer asked the company to produce a report from EPA authorizing it to put the facility there.
He said Zain ignored the assembly's demand and went ahead with the installation.
The assembly also failed to enforce its directive and looked on helplessly for the company to continue with the erection at the peril of the lives of the people of the area.
"We appeal to the EPA to order relocation of the antenna to save our lives from possible danger. We do not want to have unpleasant confrontation with Zain but it must be made to do the right thing to protect our lives."
