The Board Chairman of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Professor John Aheto has lauded the Free Universal Compulsory Basic education introduced by Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He said the policy affords the ordinary individual the ability to develop his or her talent.
Prof. Aheto was delivering a lecture in Accra on the relevance of Nkrumah's Education Vision for the Socio-Economic Development of Ghana.
The lecture was to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Dowuona-Hammond the founder of Winneba Secondary School.
Professor Aheto said what made Nkrumah's policy different from the others is that it made education the main spring of economic growth. Prof.
Aheto who is also the Dean of Students at Central University noted that one of the visions of Dr. Nkrumah is to have the best University in Ghana.
Aheto said educational research was important to Dr. Nkrumah's for this reason he introduced the adult education programme.
This programme according to Professor Aheto broadened the mental horizon of the adult population in the remotest part of the country.
The Headmistress of Winneba Secondary School, Cecilia kwakye-Coffie appealed for infrastructural development to meet the increasing needs of the student's population.
He said infrastructural challenges have forced the school to run-a-shift system during dinning.
She appealed to the government to provide the school with an internet facility and expand the school library.
