Kumasi, Oct 29, GNA - Winners of the National Best Teacher awards have been asked to serve as role models for other teachers, to raise the standards of teaching in the country.
Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, who made the call, said the Ghana Education Service expected the award winners to help raise the image of the teaching profession.
He was interacting with nine of this year's award winners from the region in Kumasi.
They were Mr. Charles Darko Abrokwah of Kumasi Technical Institute, Mr Opuni Nketiah of Konongo Odumase Senoir High School (SHS) and Mr Samuel Avornyo of Mabang SHS.
The others were Mr Kofi Kusi-Mensah of Piase Junoir High School (JHS), Mrs. Margaret Twum of Konongo Odumase SHS and Mr Yaw Adu-Gyamfi Sarpong of Toase SHS.
The rest were Oti Boakye of Subiriso Basic School, S N Boateng of Saint Louis College of Education and Mr Robert Asare-Acheampong of Nnuaso Number Three Basic School.
Mr Onyinah expressed satisfaction at the region's performance in the national awards and the national cultural and sports competitions, adding that "These achievements should serve as inspiration to you and other personnel in the service."
He said the Regional Education Directorate would provide the platform for the award winners to share their experiences with their colleagues to improve teaching and learning in the region.
Mr Kusi-Mensah said the award winners were grateful to the directorate for supporting them and pledged that they would work harder to improve upon their performance.
