MTN Offers 100 Percent Bonus

MTN, one of the leading telecommunication companies in the country, has launched its 3G bundle offer promotion to encourage the use of data and internet services among customers.

This was announced in a press statement issued in Ho last Tuesday and signed by .

The 3G bundle offer, Ms. Dumor observed, is to provide 3.5G devices at affordable and attractive rates to MTN customers, urging them to use data and internet service irrespective of being 'Pay monthly' or Pay as you go' customers.

She revealed that in April 2009, the company introduced the 3.5G technology to its subscribers in Ghana, including speed internet at significantly faster rates, GPRS, video calling and messaging and other multimedia services.

“To ensure that customers have access to 3.5G services, we have specifically tailored services to suit their needs. We have also provided customers with five offers that they can choose from and each would give them the opportunity to enjoy a double data for six months,” she added.

She pointed out that the offer comes with DSTV Mobile compatible phones such as Nokia N77 and ZTE F912, stressing that the company would also give customers six months free access to the DSTV Mobile from MTN services.

MTN organized a one-day capacity workshop for the media personnel in the Volta region to enhance their coverage of the telecommunication industry.

An official of the Corporate Services Division at MTN, Efua Falconer, explained that various media reportages showed an insufficient knowledge about the industry; hence the need for the capacity workshop.

The media personnel were taken through various issues including the history of the telecommunication industry, Mobile Network Element, Site acquisition for telecommunication masts and other environmental related issues.

Shine Fiagborme of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) explained that his outfit was deeply involved in the sitting of masts to ensure conformity with the various environmental regulations, adding, “It is a statutory requirement for people to acquire environmental permit before embarking on such projects.

We also consult with landlords and other residents who live about 200 metres away from the site.”

“The waves from the masts do not penetrate but other equipment is installed on the masts to avoid lightening thunder.”

“The Ghana Atomic Board also gives clearance to ensure that the environmental regulations are followed,” he said.

Mr. Fiagborne revealed that soil investigations, depth of foundation and other measures were conducted before constructing the masts, stressing that other things were done to avoid accidents.

He assured the public not to worry because the EPA would do all to protect them from the masts.

Ruben Opata of the Technical Division of MTN, on his part, confirmed that telecommunication companies in the country were collaborating with each other to ensure that the telecommunication towers do not spring up all over the country, stressing, “Very soon lamp poles will be introduced to serve as communication towers.”
