The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly has introduced a new technique for revenue collection, in an effort to increase internally generated funds, to support its development initiatives.
The system, dubbed “Night Toll collection”, will be operational only in the evening, and is expected to raise several millions of Ghana Cedis from night-traders in the municipality.
Speaking to Radio Ghana at Ashaiman, the Municipal Chief Executive, Addison Adinortey Numo, said the new system targets the hundreds of traders in the municipality who operate at night but do not pay any tax to the Assembly.
He advised traders who will be affected under the new system to cooperate with the revenue collectors to enable the Assembly to raise enough funds to support its development agenda.
He expressed concern over the lukewarm attitude of the citizens particularly, the market women in paying their levies and tolls, saying in the past seven months most of them have not honoured their tax obligations to the Assembly.
Mr. Numo announced that the Assembly is strategizing on how best to support small scale enterprises in the community, through the micro-finance credit programme to expand their businesses.
