SIX thousand people have fled wildfires fanned by 50mph winds in the San Bernardino National Forest, California, officials said last night.
A thousand firemen aided by air tankers are fighting the blaze.
Meanwhile, rescuers yesterday used sandbags to try to stop the raging Krishna river from bursting its banks after floods left 2.5million homeless in southern India.
The deluge, said to be the worst in decades, has killed 250 people.
British rescue teams yesterday searched a village where 1,000 people died in a mudslide caused by the earthquake in Indonesia last week.
