Hate Club!!!

Hate Club!!!

RAWLINGS AND the NDC have shown clearly that they will never recognize any achievement of the UP tradition.  In fact, they have vowed to make sure the tradition is killed and dumped in the dustbin of history.

Anytime the party comes to power, the first thing they try to do is to kill whatever initiatives were made by the tradition. They refuse to accept the fact that but for the Busia/Danquah/Dombo tradition, democracy would have only been a dream to Ghanaians.

Dr. Nkrumah introduced a one party state but Busia and his compatriots put their noses on the grindstone to make sure democracy ruled supreme in our lives. Thankfully, the more Rawlings and his group try to destroy the tradition, the more the truth of the achievements of the tradition is exposed to the younger generation. That is a problem they are creating for themselves.

Very unfortunately they always choose the Brong Ahafo Region, Busia's backyard, to plant their seeds of discord. It seems the name Rawlings and his party men and women hate to hear is Busia. To them the name Busia is an anathema and not worth mentioning at all.

Ten years ago when the Brong Ahafo Region was celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the creation of the region, Busia's name was not mentioned by any of the many speakers at the grand durbar.

Rawlings graced the occasion, but in his speech he saw it fit to praise people who did not play any meaningful role in the creation of the region.

Sadly, Busia's name was not mentioned in any of the speeches delivered that day. Then candidate Kufuor, who also graced the occasion, was not given a seat until Rawlings heard the cheers that welcomed the arrival of the man before asking his men to invite Kufuor to sit by him.

Today, the Brong Ahafo Regional Co-coordinating Council, chaired by the Regional Minister, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo has “decreed” that Busia's statue, which was erected at the Jubilee Park, should be removed and replaced with the statue of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

As at the time of writing this piece, heaps of sand and gravels have been deposited in front of the statue of Busia in preparation for the construction of the new one. Not even a court action instituted by the Busia Foundation could stop the Regional Minister from going ahead with his intention to remove the statute.

If those in the CPP think by doing this the NDC is trying to recognize the Osagyefo, then I am sorry they have missed the boat.

The NDC is rather gradually killing the aspiration of the CPP to rule the country again. In order words, like the big fish in the ocean, the NDC is swallowing the CPP. It did not start today.

In 1991 when Ghanaians voted in a referendum and chose democracy over military regime, the plan to kill Nkrumah's dreams was started by the PNDC.

The Nkrumaists who rallied behind the late Kow Nkensen Arkaah to form an Nkrumaist party were later swindled.

At the first meeting of the newly formed party, the faces of Kojo Tsikata, Ebow Tawiah, Faustina Nelson, etc were seen.  Unknown to the Nkrumaists, these people were planted to destroy the new party and thereafter bring the Nkrumaist to the fold of the NDC. And so it came to pass that as the party was crawling on her belly awaiting the day of standing up and walking,

Arkaah was 'whisked' away to become the running mate of then candidate Rawlings.

The rest followed and the party was left without a leader. As for Faustina Nelson, she was later financed to form the Verandah Boys and Girls Club with the agenda of bringing all the Nkrumaist youth on board.  (Auntie Faustie, where are you? I want to see you my comrade!).

And it came to pass in those same days that as we trudged along in our quest to firmly plant democracy in Ghana, the Nkrumaists became divided and the party became so impotent that they could not win even a seat in parliament.

To put icing on the cake, the NDC removed the corpse of the late first president of Ghana from Nkroful, where he was buried and reburied it at Accra where a mausoleum was built. As we moved along, Rawlings cunningly removed the ban on the name Convention Peoples Party and the CPP was reborn.

That too was a trick because at the end of the day he made sure the CPP's wings were clipped. Today the CPP can boast of only one parliamentarian in our August house.

That is even by the grace of Samia Nkrumah who rode to parliament on the wings of her late father's fame. That is why I am boldly saying that the intended erection of Nkruamah's statue at Sunyani is one of the tricks to further destroy the CPP.

SEKOU NKRUMAH
See how they “captured” Sekou Nkrumah and made him a board member in one of the state enterprises?

The trick has perfectly worked to their advantage! Some of us have not forgotten when this same Sekou took the NDC to the cleaners for allowing the late Justice Annan to occupy his mother's house which was built for her by the late executed Head of State, General Kutu Acheampong. This is the same man praising the NDC.

Sekou, your father did not achieve fame by doing what you are doing.  Can't you see the honour brought to your family by your feeble but intelligent sister? Anyway, what prevented you from standing as a parliamentary candidate during the last elections?

Your late father stood and won the Odododiodoo constituency and went on to be the president of the nation. That is why we are celebrating him.  But as for you……Asem se be!!!

But seriously, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister's action will go a long way to destroy the NDC in the region. Already, the people of Wenchi and those who belong to the UP tradition are highly peeved.

They do not see the reason why the only son of the region who led the country at a point in time should be treated so shabbily. The truth is that some people in the NDC were not happy when the news hit them like a tornado.

If the idea is to honour Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to coincide with his 100 years birthday and the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the region, can't the statute be erected on one of the roundabouts in the capital?

Why only the Jubilee Park?  You see, Mr. Minister, politics is not a smash and grab affair. You could honour Nkrumah without dishonouring Busiah and incurring the displeasure of the UP people.

For the short period of two years that the professor ruled the country, those who were not born too late to experience his achievements are still alive and kicking. His achievements, both as a professor and a politician, cannot be wished away so easily.

This is not the way to treat our compatriots who risked losing their lives to bring the country this far. In fact this is not the way to mend fences. The idea is bad, very bad indeed. The Americans call it Hate Club!!!.
