Kumasi, Sept.20, GNA - The Most Reverend Dr. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, out-going Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, has called on those in leadership to use the power entrusted to them to serve and not to lord it over the people.
They should respect the dignity of all manner of persons; create room for peace and love and to also initiate projects that would ensure the survival and development of society.
The Most Rev. Dr. Aboagye-Mensah was delivering a sermon at a valedictory service held in his honour by the Kumasi Diocese of the Church at the Wesley Cathedral, Kumasi.
Quoting Joshua 24:1-4 of the Bible to buttress his point, the Most Rev. Dr. Aboagye-Mensah said, people in responsible positions have to remember that they would account for their stewardship to both God and man.
He said there was therefore the need for them to be careful in decisions and choices they make whilst in office so that they would reconcile and bring the people to God.
The Most Rev. Dr Aboagye-Mensah said it was his hope and prayer that God would guide and protect the in-coming Presiding Bishop to enable him lead “His Church” and win more souls.
The Rt. Rev. Professor Emmanuel Kwaku Asante, the Diocesan Bishop and Presiding Bishop-elect, prayed for God continued blessings on the man he would be taking over from and his family so that they would be able “to carry the banner of God aloft”.
He praised the Most Rev. Dr Aboagye-Mensah for the significant growth of the Church under his six-year watch.
He was confident that the out-going Presiding Bishop would work even harder on his new job at the All African Council of Churches and also continue to be of service to the Church's Seminary and University.
