The Krontihene of the Sunyani Traditional Area, Oboaman Bofotia Boamponsem II, has been honored with a Degree of Doctor of Divinity, by the Overcomers School of Ministries International, representing the Soman Theological Seminary, in conjunction with Jesus Bible University and Ashland University, Ohio, U.S.A. institution of learning abroad.
The Doctorate Award was conferred on him in Sunyani by a team from the institute in Nigeria, led by Bishop Life Peters, in recognition of his contribution towards the growth and development of the Gospel Ministries of Jesus Christ, coupled with leadership qualities and his humble Christian lifestyle.
Nana, who is the Vice President of the Sunyani Traditional Council, before his enstoolment in the year 2006, was the leader of the Evangelical Team of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for 10 years, and is now the current Chairman of Social Services at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly.
He has made environmental cleanliness a priority after he was enstooled, organises the youth, and talks to them about the importance of cleanliness, whilst organising and engaging the members of the community in cleanup exercises.
Nana Bofotia Boamponsem thinks that education is the key to development, and occasionally gathers his people to talk to them about the importance of education, and through his advice, many parents have sent their wards to school.
After being honored, he use the occasion to remind religious, traditional and political leaders that it was a privilege to serve and not a right, so all leaders must be humble in their administration, to win the confidence of their followers to be able to succeed in whatever agenda being pursued.
Nana Bofotia Boamponsem took a swipe at politicians, urging them to serve their electorates and not the electorates serving them, and advised the electorates not to allow politicians to use them for their personal gains, to the detriment of their lives, with riots and violence.
He called on politicians to adopt the styles and methods of religious leaders in winning souls of people for Christ during campaigns for power, and not with violence.
The Krontinene of Sunyani promised to assist the school, in his capacity, to acquire a parcel of land for the establishment of the first private Theological University in the region.
