Kumasi Aug. 19, GNA - Professor Daniel Buor, Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has underscored the need for collaboration between nations for a "holistic education development" to promote productivity.

Collaboration, he noted would not only lead to the broadening of knowledge of lecturers but could also create the platform for sharing of ideas to fulfill their mission.

Prof. Buor was speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-week international conference on art education.

It was organized by the Department of Art Education, KNUST in collaboration with the African Community of Arts Educators (AfriCOAE) in the United States (US) in Kumasi .

The programme was attended by 30 participants from China , Australia , Austria , Hungary , Uganda , Nigeria , Canada , USA , Cameroon , United Kingdom and Ghana .

"The Kumasi Symposium: Tapping Local Resources for Sustenance Education through Art", was the theme and this was a follow-up to 2008 Accra conference dubbed "AfriCOAE."

The Provost commended the participants for the good work they were doing and said the College has declared the year 2010 as "conference year."

He therefore urged all Heads of department in the College to plan towards such conferences to enhance the teaching and learning of art in the country.

Prof. Kojo Fosu, former Head, Department of Art Education at KNUST, suggested that art education should be made compulsory at the basic education level to enable children to develop interest in art education.

Nana Afia Amponsa Opoku Afriyie, Head, Department of General Art Studies, said the conference would be discussing Art education, studio practice, art administration management and marketing practice, natural and man-made environmental issues in artistic practices and best practices.

She said the knowledge acquired would help them in the teaching and learning of art in their various institutions.

There was an exhibition of art works by the various participants.
