POLICE CHIEF ORDAINED PRIEST OF CAC

By Frank Mensah,New Edubiase - Ghanaian Chronicle

THE ASHANTI Regional Buffalo Unit Commander of the Ghana Police Service, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) S. Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, has been extolled as the first police officer to be ordained a pastor in the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC).

The main ordination took place at the CAC Bantama Central, in Kumasi, on October 7, 2007.

The thanksgiving service was postponed till last Sunday, because Reverend ASP Adane-Ameyaw had to leave the country a day after, to attend a United Nation's peace keeping programme.

At a thanksgiving service held at the CAC New Edubiase Assembly last Sunday, he gave thanks to God for his ordination as a pastor of the CAC.

He thanked the Almighty God for his call as a childhood dream, and the church, for accepting him as a pastor in the Assembly.

According to him, his dream of becoming a minister of God started at a very tender age, when he was a Mass Servant and catechist, and worshiped with the Catholic Church.

He joined the Scripture Union (SU) and later became the Chaplain of the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC), where he sat for both his Ordinary and Advanced level examinations. “I joined the SU, and based on that, I developed interest in Pentecostalism,” he narrated.

The 44-year old police capo started his education at Kojokumikrom R/C Primary School in the Dormaa District of the Brong Ahafo Region, and then the Aboabo No. 4 Presbyterian, and Goka L/A Middle schools.

He then proceeded to SUSEC, where after his completion, became a Mathematics and Science teacher there. He also taught at the Chiraa Junior and Senor High Schools correspondingly.

He then joined the Ghana Police Service as a recruit on July 27, 1990, and was posted to the Police Headquarters Registry in Accra a year afterwards, subsequent to his basic police training.

With more enthusiasm in education, Rev. ASP Adane-Ameyaw continued his education at Accra Polytechnic, University of Ghana/School of Administration and Theological Seminary, Legon in that order.

He has undertaken some professional courses, and has obtained certificates from Chartered Institute of Marketing and Administration (CIMA), London, Master of Business Administration (MBA) Finance, among other qualifications.

He also undertook courses and seminars in Juvenile Justice and Dealing with Child Victims of Domestic Violence, Cadet Officers Course 37, and United Nations Assistant Team (UNAT).

Rev. ASP Adane-Ameyaw, who is married and a father of five (3 girls and 2 boys), has also researched and written volumes on Financial Administration of the Ghana Police Service, Divine Gift (autobiography), The Ghanaian Driver and Road Traffic Accidents, a case study in Ghana, which are yet to be published.

In March 2007, he was commemorated by the International Peace Federation and received an award as the Ambassador of Peace.

He is a professional member of the CIMA, International Conference of Police Chaplains (first member in Ghana since July, 1999), Bible Society of Ghana, Ghana Evangelism Committee, Accra South Rotary Club and Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU).

He has held religious positions such as Mass Servant and Catechist, Deacon and Elder of CAC for 17 years, and a Chaplain of the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) with its headquarters in the USA.

Some positions he has held in professional policing include an Administrator and Clerk, Staff to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), District Police Commander, General Administration Officer and Deputy Operations Co-ordinator in both UN missions in East Timor and Liberia, respectively. He is currently the Ashanti Regional Buffalo Unit Commander, and enjoys combining the work of God with his current position in the police administration, saying they are all “works of God,” and quoted Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God,” to support his claim.
