Torrential rain in the Ellembele in the Jomoro District of the Western Region has killed two persons and displaced several others destroying properties worth several thousands of Ghana Cedi. Towns such as Akronpong, Ebanso, Asompi, Nyamebekyere and Adubrim have been cut off from the rest of the Ellembele district due to the magnitude of the flood.
The trunk road linking Efiama and Assasetre is flooded thereby making it difficult for vehicular and human movement.
Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Assemblyman for Alawole Mr. Joseph Kirg Mensah lamented that the feeder road linking Alawol-Tikobo Number One - Half Assini stretch in the Jomoro District has also become unmotorable. He said parts of the road network have been cut due to soil erosion and this is hampering easy movement of goods and services.
Meanwhile the Deputy Minister for Energy and MP for Ellembele, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Boah and some NADMO officials have visited the affected areas to assess the flood situation and extent of damage.
Mr. Boah said the situation is terrible as commercial and industrial activities have come to a standstill thereby stagnating development.
The MP said displaced victims are putting up with their neighbours in nearby towns.
