
The Transport Ministry has requested GH¢33.6 million to undertake repair works on roads destroyed by the recent rains and to also desilt some minor drains in the capital, Accra.
The sector minister, Joe Gidisu, told Joy News that his outfit has engaged the services of some contractors who have agreed to work upfront pending the release of funds.
The ministry, he said, has officially submitted a proposed budget to the Ministry of Finance on Monday for funds.
“They (contractors) are requesting GH¢33.6Million and by way of break down, the Dansoman Roads, New Town Roads, Nima Highway, Dadeban Road and Palace Street area; we need GH¢4.7 million for work on those roads.”
He said: “The Tema Beach Road, Kpeshie Road and Teshie Link; we have GH¢6.6 million. Then East Legon area roads and session of Spintex Road would need $7.7 million. Then rehabilitation of roads within Tema and the drains together, it will cost GH¢3.5 million.”
Mr Gidisu said the rehabilitation of roads and drenching of drains within Ga South, East and West will cost GH¢1.1 million.
Already works have started at some parts of East Legon and Tema Beach roads.
