Even before they make their presence felt on the music scene, it seems new musical group, Black and White (B&W), is challenging existing heavyweights in the music game.
The group, made of Waekie Pinto Michael and Nana Oppong Damoah Frank, makes farce of the standard of Afro-pop music being churned out in Ghana lately, as they brag with their yet-to-be-released album titled, “Shoe Maker”.
The group says it is ready to give Afro-pop music in Ghana a fresh breath.
“B&W has finally taken up the mantle to revolutionize and introduce the Afro-pop music genre in Ghana to change the phase of Ghanaian music.
We are without doubt second to none of our competitors in the music industry because of our touch of quality,” the group's publicist, Nii Kotei Rokadijah, stated in a press statement.
The group, the statement said, is endowed with God-given talent to enliven Ghana's Afro-pop music beyond the borders of Africa.
According to the statement, Afro-pop is an elitist form of African music which seeks to unite African rap music and broaden the scope of African music.
It is thus designed to address peculiar problems related to the African continent like hunger, war and poverty. Even though messages in B&W's songs are mostly love-oriented, the group is committed to solving societal problems as it hopes to generate enough funds to get homeless children off the streets.
It is also to build hope, confidence and inculcate discipline in the youth to become responsible future leaders.
Promotional songs of the group's album have already begun receiving massive airplay on the various airwaves across the country, with songs like “Shoe Maker” getting a rousing appeal. The full album which is set to be launched in late July featured new artistes as Stomy and Nuru binghi, who are gradually building their careers.
