David Kpordoha, 36, a labourer at Akosombo Textiles Limited (ATL), is in the firm grips of the law for fraud by false pretences and he has been remanded by the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Asmah Akwasi Asiedu.

He defrauded two different persons to the tune of GH¢400. The prosecutor, Inspector R.A. Boahene, told the court that the first complainant, Williams Akpalu, is a fitter in Tema.

He said in January this year the accused person collected GH¢200 from the complainant under the pretext of securing a job at ATL for Akpalu’s younger brother, Godwin Akpalu, but the accused failed to honour his promise.

He said on May 26, 2009 the complainant went to the personnel manager of ATL and reported the accused’s conduct to him. The manager instantly caused the arrest of the accused and he was handed over to the police, who also detained him.

The prosecutor said the accused admitted the offence in his caution statement and he was charged for court.

The second case involved Philip Addo Torkornyo, unemployed, who resides at Kpong.

According to the prosecutor, some time in February this year a friend of Addo’s introduced the accused person as an ATL worker who could help him (Addo) to secure a job at the ATL. Based on that introduction and further discussions, the accused demanded GH¢200 from Addo, as well as his certificate, testimonial and labour card. But David failed to honour his promise.

On May 27, the prosecutor said, Addo, who felt cheated, made a report to the police at Akosombo. He said during investigations, a search was conducted in the accused person’s house, where 14 certificates, four testimonials, a labour card and 12 application letters addressed to the personnel manager of ATL were found.
