Hohoe, June 14, GNA - A Hohoe Circuit Court has remanded Kudjo Togbevi, Depot Keeper of Trans Royal Cocoa Buying Company in Koforidua and Yaw Narh, a driver in prison custody by for allegedly smuggling 80 bags of dried cocoa beans valued at GH¢7,344 to Togo.
Mensah owner of the cocoa beans and an accomplice is on the run.
Their pleas were not taken and would re-appear on June 19, this year.
The court presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa ordered that the truck used in the operation be impounded.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Benjamin Dadzie, prosecuting told the court that policemen at Golokwati police barrier intercepted the truck on June 6, when the driver failed to offer satisfactory reasons on their movement.
He said investigations revealed that Mensah engaged Narh to convey the cocoa beans from Bunso in the Eastern Region to Hohoe.
The prosecution said Narh was escorted to Koforidua where Togbevi, was arrested and told the police that he (Togbevi) sold 20 bags of cocoa beans to Mensah.
He said after investigations they were charged with the offence.
