Ofosu Ampofo Inspects Small Water Projects

The Eastern Regional Minister Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has inspected small town water projects sponsored by DANIDA at certain parts of the Kwahu North District.

The projects are located at Memkyemfre and Kayere near Donkorkrom.

At Memkyemfre, the Minister urged the community members to take good care of the project because it was constructed with other people's money.

He also urged them to maintain the equipment regularly because it will assist them to reduce the waterborne diseases in the area.

The Regional Minister commended the Danish government for assisting  in Ghana's developmental efforts.

Mr. Ampofo  who was accompanied by his deputy, Baba Jamal announced  that the Kwahu North District had been nominated to benefit from a number of projects this year, especially the third phase of the Community Water and Sanitation new projects for 2009.

The projects, which would include small town water supply system, boreholes and KVIP, are awaiting confirmation from the CWSA and DANIDA.

At Donkorkrom, Mr. Ampofo inspected a 32-million dollar compartment of Afram Plains District Agricultural Development Project (APDADP) being sponsored by African Development Bank under the Millennium Challenge Account on Agriculture.

According to the Coordinating Director, Mr. Francis Owusu Ansah, the money is the biggest injection of capital under the MCA in the agriculture sector in the district.

He said that the project had four main  components. These are the formation of 900 farmer based organisations with a membership of 25 farmers per group, cultivation of 16,984 hectares of maize,11,323 hectares of yam,11,323 hectors of cashew  and 5,660 hectares of cassava.

The rest are the development of exotic and improved seedlings for farmers and supply of planting materials whiles a total of 971 farm families in 53 farming groups in 22 communities are to benefit from subsidised pumps.

The Eastern Regional Minister and his entourage later inspected a 22,000 hectares maize farm at Kwanim near Mame Krobo and 1,200 acres maize farm, a 60-acre teak farm and a 30-acre votanga farm near Tease being undertaken by the Saviour Church at Osiam.
