Apam (C/R), April 25, GNA — The Apam District court has jailed Stephen Mensah from Gomoa Ankamu 12 months for stealing a Nokia mobile phone costing GH¢60, belonging to one Nana Yaa from the same town.

Mensah pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Sampson Dziekpor, told the court presided over by Mr Charles Wiafe that Mensah at 0100 hour on June 27 2008 broke into the room of madam Yaa, a dressmaker at Gomoa Ankamu.

He said Mensah switched off the light and took the mobile phone from a table in the room.

The prosecution said Madam Yaa suddenly woke up from her sleep and started shouting for help but the accused person managed to escape.

Chief Inspector Dziekpor said in the afternoon of that day, madam Yaa spotted Mensah at the station, boarding a vehicle for Apam and informed a police officer on duty at the station.

The prosecution said when the policeman, whose name was not mentioned in court attempted to arrest Mensah, he resisted arrest and struggled with the officer. In the process the officer received some injuries.

He said with the assistance of some Good Samaritan, Mensah was overpowered and sent to the Apam Police Station and during a search on him, the mobile phone was found on him but without the chip.

The court ordered that Mensah pay GH¢50 compensation to the police officer for his medical and other related expenses.
