Surveyors urged to come out with reforms in the land tenure system

Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, Eastern Regional Minister, on Monday urged lands surveyors to come out with proposals to reform land acquisition and tenure system.
This, he noted, would ensure easier access to land for entrepreneurs for estate development and other industrial activities.
He also advised the surveyors to come out with effective survey drawings for the construction of the country's high ways and feeder roads to reduce high accident rates on the roads.
Mr Ofosu- Ampofo was inaugurating a 10- feet beacon tower at the 2080 feet highest habitable point in the country at Abetifi, in the Kwahu East District, which was erected by the Ghana Institution of Surveyors as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary celebration of the institution.
He said the government was committed to its agenda on comprehensive policies to support economic growth and poverty reduction to enable the country attained middle income status by the year 2016.
The Regional Minister urged the district assembly to take advantage of the opportunity created and develop the site into a tourist attraction to enhance local revenue generation, which will also offer employment to the youth in the area.
The President of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Mr Kwadwo Asante-Osei, said during the construction of the Ghana Railway line in the 1920's, surveyors under Governor Gordon Guggisberg considered Mpraeso as the highest habitable point in the country.
He said in 1948, a young Ghanaian trained Surveyor, Andrew Osei, was posted to Mpraeso and after effective work discovered the present place as the highest habitable point of 2080 feet in the country.
Mr Asante-Osei appealed to the District Assembly, the Ghana Tourist Board and the Presbyterian Church and its University to develop the site as one of the best tourist attraction in the country.
The Chief of Abetifi, Nana Asiedu Agyeman, III, said the area had a number of tourist sites and appealed to the government for assistance to develop them into tourist attractions to be able to generate income and also offer employment to the youth in the area.
