Black-clad G20 protesters are holding a memorial march to lay flowers at the site of newspaper seller Ian Tomlinson's death.

Groups who took part in last week's demonstration in the City of London are set to gather at Bethnal Green police station and walk in silence to the Bank of England.

Some protesters have suggested that they could remain in the City until Sunday.

A notice on the G20 Meltdown website said: "The question is, will people feel like just going home, meek and mild, after laying flowers?

"Some of us may feel strongly like staying at that place until Ian Tomlinson and his family get justice. Will there ever be such a chance again to turn the world upside down?"

Mr Tomlinson died of an apparent heart attack as thousands of protesters converged in the City of London nine days ago.

After his death, video footage emerged of the 47-year-old being shoved to the ground by a policeman shortly before his death.

The officer pictured in the footage has been suspended and the Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating.

Watchdog chairman Nick Hardwick has warned that "someone may face very serious criminal charges".

Last night he defended the decision to use City of London police officers - who it later emerged could have been involved in the incident - to help gather evidence.

He told Channel 4 News their help was "urgently" needed to collect material from "a huge scene" and added that some officers would continue the work.
