Small-Towns Water Supply Project for five communities in the Upper West Region, was stopped last year due to lack of funding from government and its development partners.
Funsi, Babile, Kaleo, Charia and Busa communities would have benefited from the project, estimated to cost 2,853,714.01 Ghana cedis.
Mr. Sampson Atakora, Acting Upper West Regional Director of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), made these known when the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. Mahmud Khalid paid a familiarisation visit to the Agency on Thursday.
He said some 19 communities that were also earmarked to benefit from 37 boreholes at an estimated cost of 340,543.40 Ghana Cedis under the Guinea Worm Eradication Project could not be executed.
Mr Atakora said 45 boreholes that were to be drilled under the Special Water Project in some deprived communities in the districts at a cost of 338,800.00 Ghana Cedis had also been abandoned.
He said through water supply in the region was relatively high, there was the need for the provision of more water due to an increase in population.
Mr. Khalid said some communities in the Wa Municipality were without adequate water supply and appealed to the CWSA and other stakeholders to provide water for the people.
He also urged agencies involved in the provision of water to ensure judicious utilisation of water resources.
Mr. Khalid, who also visited the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Offices, appealed to the staff to help promote the region through the provision of accurate reports on development issues.
Mr. Chris Alalbila, Regional Director of GBC, appealed to the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC), to help fence around the office and to provide adequate office accommodation for the staff.
