Members of SDA Church undertake clean-up exercise in Sekondi-Takoradi

Members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in Sekondi-Takoradi at the weekend undertook clean up exercise in the principal streets of the Metropolis.

The exercise was in support of the President’s sanitation programme for the country, which would take off on February 14.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the exercise, Conference Auditor of the SDA Church in Takoradi, Mr. Kofi Brew, said the exercise commenced at about 6:30 am from the Asempa Hotel to the Market Circle and ended at the Collins Avenue Street in Takoradi.

He said about 500 members of the Church participated in the clean up at Takoradi.

Mr. Brew however advised the public to keep the environment tidy and to observe personal hygiene to avoid diseases because “cleanliness is next to godliness”.

At Sekondi, Elder Obo led members of the Church to undertake similar exercise near the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Komfoase and the Prisons Service.

Elder Obo advised the public against indiscriminate disposal of refuse to prevent outbreak of diseases.

Miss Comfort Leticia Ali, an environmental health Officer and a member of the church commended the government for initiating the nationwide clean-up campaign and advised the public to collectively participate in it.

“This should not be a nine day wonder but should be a continuous programme” she added.

Pastor J. R. D Donkor, the District Pastor of Sekondi SDA Church said the exercise formed part of the church’s social responsibility for the year.

Pastor Donkor thanked the members for taking part in the exercise and said the indiscriminate disposal of water sachets was a waste management problem that should be serious tackled.

He called on the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly to put litter bins at vantage points for proper disposal of sachets.

Mr. Donkor urged Ghanaians to be conscious of their roles in ensuring clean environment and good sanitation.
