The Suhum/Kraboa Coaltar District branch of Ghana Government Pensioners Association, held its silver jubilee celebration at Suhum on Wednesday, with a call on government to take the necessary steps to improve the living conditions of all pensioners.

Mr. Samuel K. Ababio, secretary of the national association, expressed worry that several promises made by government to pensioners had not been fulfilled.

He claimed that because of the poor condition of pensioners some of them died prematurely and others were ashamed to be identified as pensioners.

Mr. R. R. Amponsah, Deputy Secretary of the Eastern Regional branch of the association, commended the district branch of the association for being the most organized out of the 15 district branches in the region.

He appealed to executives of the district branch of the association to render proper accounts to their members to ensure peace and unity.

Miss Angelina Anyanfo, the district branch association financial Officer, assured the pensioners of prompt payment of their allowances and other benefits and asked them to visit the office regularly for information any assistance.

Mr. Emmanuel K. Boafo, immediate past secretary of the district branch association, said it was formed in 1983 with seven members but it now had 800 members.

Mr. Opare Ansah Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum, asked the pensioners to apply their experience to the benefit of the youth.
