Eastern FM holds 10th anniversary

Last Saturday marked another new milestone in the life of Eastern FM, the first private radio station to be given a license by the National Media Commission, to start operations as a radio station in the Eastern Region, as they celebrated their 10th anniversary.

The station, which was formerly known as Radio 'Z,' was established in 1998 by one Mr. Owusu Acheapong, a UK-based businessman.

Even though the station was the first radio station to be established in the region, problems such as lack of adverts and permanent accommodation for staff have hindered the smooth operations of the station.

As part of activities to mark the one week celebration, the station on Friday embarked on floats through the principal streets in the municipality, a massive clean-up exercise at the Koforidua Central Market, and health walk.

The climax of the celebration was a street jam held at Mobile 2, one of the celebrated spots in Koforidua, which started from 10 p.m. till the next day.

Prior to the jam, Mr. Francis Annor Dompreh, Morning Show host of the station, advised the youth, who had gathered at the venue, to consider education as one of their priorities, in order to achieved higher lures in life.

The station, since it inception, has produced some of the finest radio presenters in the country, such as Abeiku Santana, Anaafi Agyeman both of Adom FM, a Tema-based radio station and Professor Wallace of Asempa FM, an Accra-based radio station.
