THE Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) has decided to re-number houses in the Kumasi Metropolis.
In addition to the new numbers for houses, streets will also be given names.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, who announced this at the launching of Standard Chartered Bank’s Visa Horizon in Kumasi, said the streets names would be auctioned and called on companies in the metropolis to take advantage of the opportunity that would be offered them to get their companies named after the streets.
He said KMA will also introduce ID cards for residents in Kumasi.
The exercise which is scheduled to start in January next year is to enable the KMA know the exact number of houses and residents in the metropolis, he said.
He said the exercise will help the KMA to facilitate restoring Kumasi to its “Garden City” status.
The standard Chartered Bank Visa Horizon card which enables the user to transact business without the necessarily using cash, aims to secure the user from robbery.
Mr Jumah urged banks to make their interest rates very attractive and said by so doing, most people will be attracted to deposit their monies with the banks.
He also urged the banking community not to focus on big firms alone but also be more aggressive at attracting small-scale enterprise since they constitute about 65 per cent of the business community.
He observed that the businesses practice of most banks are too rigid and called on them to make their banking hours customer friendly by extending their banking hours.
The Executive Director of Finance of the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), Mr Kojo Fynn, in his welcome address said the use of cards impacted positively on economies of other countries and expressed the hope that the Visa Horizon card will boost the confidence consumers have in the bank.
He said the Visa Horizon card is safe and secure since it has a personal identification number (PIN).
