Kwaebibirem Health Extension Workers advised to be serious

Health extension workers of the National Youth Employment Programme in the Kwaebibirem District have been advised to take their work seriously.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, addressing them on Tuesday said those showing dedication in their work could be sponsored by the district assembly should they gain admission to nursing training schools.

He said the district assembly was also prepared to assist the committed ones to better their grades to enable them to pursue further studies.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye however expressed worry that reports reaching him indicate that some of them were exhibiting acts of indiscipline such as absenteeism, insubordination and lateness to work.

He therefore advised the guilty ones to change for the better or face disciplinary action.

Mr Yiadom-Boakye said in as much as the district assembly wanted to offer the youth opportunities to work and improve themselves, it would not tolerate those who abused the opportunity given them.

He reminded them that although they were selected by the district assembly, but since they have been attached to health institutions they were under the control of the Ghana Health Services (GHS).

The DCE therefore advised them to abide by the rules and regulations of the GHS.

Miss Margaret Nyarko, District Public Health Nurse and Miss Charity Gyamfua, Human Resources Officer of the GHS, took turns to explain to the health extension workers the code and ethics of the GHS.
It included showing friendliness to patients by giving them the needed care and attention, avoidance of all acts of indiscipline, such as drunkenness, smoking, drugs and immoral behaviour, especially while on duty.
