The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ghana Federation of Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (GHAFTRAM) will commemorate the Sixth African Traditional Medicine Day tomorrow at Sekondi, in the Western Region.
A statement yesterday signed by Mr Dan Osman Mwin, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, said the day would be under the theme: 'The Role of Traditional Health Practitioners in Primary Health Care.'
It said it was in line with government's efforts to promote traditional medicine into the health care delivery system. African Traditional Medicine Day was instituted in 2003 to be commemorated yearly on August 31.
As part of activities marking the day, there will be an exhibition of traditional medicines, healthy foods and free traditional medicine treatment to the public from 28th to 29th of August.
The Ministry of Health urged all traditional and alternative medicine practitioners to endeavour to register with the Traditional and Alternative Medical Council (TAMC) of the Ministry to enable the Ministry to recognise and support them when the need arose.
