The Ashanti Regional Police have confirmed the death of Sergeant Dan Dogbefu, a policeman on patrol duty between Abrepo and Suame roundabout in Kumasi, who was shot and killed in mysterious circumstances last Friday.
Dogbefu, of the Ashanti Regional Police Band, was with his colleagues on a snap-check duty when the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m.
Inspector Mohammed Yusif Tanko of the Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, who confirmed the incident in an interview with the Times yesterday, was however reluctant to give further details, stating that investigations into the mysterious death have been intensified.
The Kumasi police said Sergeant Dogbefu was shot several times in the chest.
His body was found at a mechanic's workshop, a few metres away from the street where the police had mounted a barrier.
Meanwhile, the body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary.
