Kwasi Mensah,32, a farmer at Anyinamso Number Two in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region died after taking a poisonous substance suspected to be DDT.
He is believed to have forced the girlfriend, Ayishatu Mohammed, 16, to also take the substance.
A police source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkawie on Tuesday that, the deceased who was reported to have picked up a quarrel with his girlfriend, forced the girl to drink the substance to end their lives.
The source said Ayishatu mastered courage and ran to her parents to inform them about the ordeal and was immediately given a quantity of palm oil which forced her to vomit.
She was then rushed to the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital where she is currently on admission.
The source said Mensah, who thought Ayishatu would die also drunk the substance but was conveyed to the Nkawie-Toase Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
