The Volta Regional Secretariat of the Department of Women of the Ministry of Women and Children's Affair on Thursday presented school uniforms to 40 orphans and vulnerable children in Ho.
The children were selected from Dr. Asase Memorial Children's Home and VIAK Memorial.
Ms. Lena Alai-Dow, Volta Regional Director of the Department who presented the items, said it was part of the Department's commitment to ensuring the welfare of women and children under the Ghana AIDS Commission Multi-Sectoral HIV/AIDS Programme.
She said the school uniforms were to cushion parents or guardians in the exercise of their responsibilities towards providing the educational needs of their children the wards.
Ms. Alai expressed the hope that the uniforms would invoke the interest of the children in education and also motivate them to learn hard.
Mr. Ohene Agbehali, Coordinator of Dr. Asase Memorial Children's Home expressed gratitude to the Department for the support and said it was of great relief to the Home.
He said orphanages require such support to be able to bring up such children to become worthy members of society. Source: GNA - Ghana News Agency
