Adu Gyamfi Senior High School (SHS) at Jamasi in the Ashanti Region has received education facilities estimated at more than GHc500,000 to enhance teaching and learning in the past four years.
The facilities, which were provided by the government, included an Assembly Hall, a dinning hall, two storey block of dormitories, Computer and Library centres, masters' bungalows, as well as classroom and administration blocks.
Mr. Benjamin Abankwa, Sekyere South District Chief Executive (DCE) announced this at the launch of the school's 40th anniversary celebration and Second Speech and Prize-Giving Day at Jamasi on Friday.
The event would take place in October this year under the theme: “Promoting Academic Excellence and Discipline through Infrastructural Development in Education.”
Mr Abankwa lauded the government for improving facilities at the school and said it had greatly helped to ensure its growth and development.
Madam Comfort Bandoh, District Director of Education, said the school had been selected as one of the Model institutions in the country.
Mr. Kingsford Isaac Nsowah, the Headmaster, said the student population had grown over the years from 91 students in 1974, when it was absorbed into the public system, to 1,650 presently.
He said over the last three years, the school had been scoring 100 percent in the West African Senior High School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and attributed this to the good work of the entire staff.
Mr. Peter Osei Owusu, a Board Member and an Old Student of the school, called on old students of the school to support the development of their alma mater.
A 50-member Cadet Corps was inaugurated for the school by Lt. Oko Nettey of the 4th Infantry Battalion in Kumasi.
