Management of State Transport Company Limited says it is making all efforts to ensure that victims of a head-on collision involving their bus and a tipper truck at Dompoase, near Komenda Junction, in the early hours of Thursday are compensated adequately.

The Transport Company also says it is also in talks with its insurers, Gemini Life Insurance Company, to take care of the entire medical expenses of the victims, particularly those who have not registered with the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Mr. Kwame Agyei-Sefa, the Managing Director of the Company in an interview with Hello FM, a local radio station in Kumasi, said all their buses have been insured and that the Company's insurers were ready to release funds for the upkeeps of the victims.

He again hinted that government was also considering coming into the aid of the victims by giving them some compensation since it has shares in the company.

He disclosed that officials at the accident scene in the early hours of the day were able to retrieve about GH¢8.5, 000 from the victims and will find ways of giving back those monies to the victims.

The MD called for attitudinal change on our roads, especially on the part of commercial drivers and heavy load carriers, while the police ensure that laws governing road safety are strictly enforced without compromise.

He, however, called on government to adequately equip the police to professionally undertake their duties on the roads.

Mr Agyei-Sefa further stated that his outfit was collaborating with the Regional MTTU in their investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident and will soon come out with their findings. He maintained that the STC was the only reliable, efficient and safe transport system in the country and will continue to serve the public better, urging them not to be perturbed by the accident.

He expressed the company's deepest condolence to the bereaved families, friends and loved one, saying that "the company shares with them their sorrows and pains and we will do anything within our means to make sure that they are adequately compensated".

Sixteen people, including a soldier and a staff of the Ghana Commercial Bank, in the accident perished while 33 sustained various degrees of injuries. The STC bus was traveling from Takoradi to Accra while the tipper truck, carrying stone chips, was journeying from Kumasi towards Takoradi.
