The Ghana Police Service is promising increased vigilance in keeping custody of seized quantities of suspected cocaine.
Some 390 parcels of suspected cocaine aboard a truck said to be from Niger was intercepted by police upon a tip-off at Nsawam.
The drugs were found hidden in secret compartments of the Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GT 3359 Z, and Police Public Affairs Director, DSP Kwasi Ofori told Joy News that the three suspects arrested with the drug managed to escape arrest in other West African countries.
“It was intelligence led operations. They created some compartments and hid the drugs there but due to good search conducted by the police, they were able to break into those secret compartments and as I'm speaking to you, the three are in custody.”
He promised rigid steps to prevent situations in recent times where drug exhibits in t he care of the police have either gone missing or adulterated with other materials.
“Developments of yesteryears will definitely make the police to be careful and mindful about the safety of the drugs…,” he said.
