Alan Kyerematen’s successful palace Coup

Alan Kyerematens successful palace Coup
03.05.2008 LISTEN

Since losing the flag-bearership of the National Patriotic Party Alan Kyeremateng has shown a behavior very unworthy of a politician and a leader. He has demonstrated the bitterness of a spoiled child and not that of a mature and seasoned politician. He seems to crave undue attention and thus decided to stage a surprise palace CUOP by announcing his resignation from the party, something he used as a ploy and never intended seriously. He has, however, succeeded in fooling the entire NPP administration. He has, as a matter of fact, using this ploy, become the poster and sorrow child of the NPP who must now be appeased, cajoled, pampered, and doted on.

He has, as a result of the meeting with President Kufuor and Nana Akufo Addo, been promised a prominent position should the NPP retain power. Alan Kyeremateng, using this ploy, put his personal interests of amassing wealth at the expense of the ordinary Ghanaian, the NPP and the nation. He has also demonstrated that he has a weak backbone as a leader whose knees buckle when the going gets tough. Alan lacks the will to fight and the ability to lead by embarrassingly displaying unparalleled weakness of character. Alan is now damaged goods and can never lead any country. He lacks any leadership skills. He failed as a leader:

The Presidential Special Initiatives on cassava which he was in charge was a total failure.

As Ghana's ambassador to the United States, he oversaw the sale of the Ghana Consular building with the proceeds unaccounted for.

As Ghana's representative in the United States, he initiated the database of Ghanaians in the diasporas. Most of us sent in our CVs, but nothing came of this database which could have been used as a source of Brain Gain for Ghana.

The following are some of the characteristics of a leader which Alan Kyerematen gravely lacks as a statesman:

The qualities of a good leader are self knowledge, commitment, willingness to look for others for support, being open to change, and the desire to go the extra mile. A leader is someone who helps others do and become more than they ever thought possible. Leadership is about unlocking potential, whether individual potential or that of a group, company, or organization. Effective leaders know what's important to them, what their strengths and weaknesses are and what drives them. In addition to being self-aware, an effective leader is not afraid to take on responsibilities. Sometimes it requires putting the organization or group first and keeping it there. True leadership requires you to make sacrifices, including putting others before yourself. Good leaders also know that they do not know everything and willing to learn from others. So while the ultimate decision and responsibility may lie with one individual, it is incumbent upon him or her to gather information and trust others' point of view before developing a plan of action. Good leaders are also open to change. Change is one of life's most obvious factors, yet it remains one of the most strongly resisted. Effective leaders recognize the value of change.

Effective leaders are paragon of models to be emulated, in that they are selfless, and committed to the organization's good. Unfortunately, Alan lacks these qualities and cannot compete on the global political stage and obviously not at the helm of our national affairs, not now and not in the future. He has shot himself in both feet.
