Shell Ghana Limited, a leading seller of petroleum products in the Ghana has trained 32 of its staff as peer educators to help sensitize workers on HIV-AIDS.
The move is in line with the company's vision to prevent and reduce the spread of HIV-AIDs and other disease not only among it workers, but their family and clients.
The programme dubbed Workplace HIV-AIDS Programme Policy was instituted last year and the company has devoted an annual budget of $100,000 to support it.
The thirty two workers who were trained by Ghana Social and Marketing Foundation (GSMF) were outdoored in Accra on Sunday. Workers, their families and clients of the company were taken through counseling and testing for HIV, health fitness checks. They also listened to and watched real testimonies from persons living with the HIV virus.
The Managing Director of shell Ghana, Dan Nunoo admonished the workers to take personal responsibility for their health to ensure higher productivity in the company.
The programme was supported by the GSMF.
