Some exhibitors might not have the chance to market their products to the numerous visitors at the 2008 Trade Fair which is scheduled to be held at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in February.

This is due to the collapse of the skyline roof of Pavilion-F in July this year.

Popularly referred to as the round pavilion because of its shape, Pavilion-F is usually used by exhibitors from the ECOWAS sub-region.

However, the Centre noted that exhibitors during the 12th Ghana International Trade Fair in February next year might not have access to Pavilion-F if the Ghana Trade Fair Company was not able to restore it before the date for the exhibition.

When CITY & BUSINESS GUIDE contacted the trade fair authorities, Kawme Ofori-Amanfo, Solicitor Secretary of the company gave the assurance that though the building was okay, the skyline roof would have to be restored.

“The collapsed metallic skyline roof has been safely dismantled and the place will only be used if it becomes very necessary.”

Bernard Asamoah, Head of Marketing also explained that the company was looking at rebuilding the roof, “but now we are looking at making it look concave or something else”.

With regard to challenges experienced by exhibitors during fairs such as shortage of water and frequent power fluctuation which sometimes affect patronage of the event, Mr Ofori-Amanfo pointed out that the company had dug two boreholes for the construction of a stilled water plant with a water treatment facility.

On the power outages, he said “the whole centre which has over 991 acres of land had only one main metre which serves all. This year it was better and we are hoping that next year we wouldn't have any problems.”

On the uniqueness of the fair, the solicitor secretary maintained that a lot of innovative packages had been put in place such as the introduction of the mobile exhibition hall and the installation of aluminum sheet shelves in Pavilion-A.
