NARCOTIC CONTROL Board (NACOB) officials at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have apprehended a 31-year-old Nigerian for allegedly swallowing four and inserting in his anus six other pellets of a whitish substance believed to be cocaine.

Matthew Eneeboifo was arrested on October 27, 2007 at 8.00pm as he was going through formalities to board an Alitalia flight to Italy.
One of the officials was said to have noticed something suspicious about Matthew, whereupon the suspect was accosted.

He was made to undergo a urine test and it proved positive for cocaine. Upon interrogation, he confessed to swallowing cocaine.

Matthew was taken to the 37 Military Hospital where he was X-rayed and the four pellets of cocaine were found in his stomach and another six in his anus.

According to the Public Relations Officer of NACOB, Francis Opoku Amoah, upon further interrogation Matthew mentioned one Kojo Vorleamesi, a Ghanaian based in Lagos as his supplier.

Mr. Amoah stated that on October 28, a team of NACOB officials traced Vorleamesi at his hide-out at T/J Hotel at Madina in Accra, where he was arrested.

Upon searching his hotel room, the NACOB officials found various sums of foreign and local denominations including €1000, $700 and Gh¢440.

The suspects were said to have told the NACOB officials that Vorleamesi's elder brother, Anthony, who is based in Italy, was the brain behind the deal. He was said to have flown back to Italy on Thursday October 25, 2007.

In a related development, NACOB officials have intercepted a UK-bound Expedited Mail Service (EMS) parcel believed to contain marijuana (wee) at the Aviance Cargo section of the KIA.

No arrest has been made but investigations are under way to apprehend those believed to be involved in the deal.

NACOB officials have again intercepted a big polyethylene bag (polytene) containing three beautiful hammocks woven in the national colours of red, gold and green meant for export to the UK.

But a check conducted by NACOB officials revealed that dried leaves suspected to be marijuana or cannabis were concealed in the hammock.

Mr. Amoah said a field test had shown that it was cannabis. At the time of going to press, the suspects could not be traced but investigations were underway.
