The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has clarified that errors on voter registration slips will not affect the bearers' eligibility to vote in the 2024 general elections.

This comes after a registration slip circulating on social media which has its bearer registered in Kasoa in the Central Region but the EC officials listed the district as Ayawaso North in Greater Accra.

Many, notably Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for opposition NDC criticised the election management body.

However, according to the EC, "This error does not appear on the Applicant's Voter's ID Card. It reflects on the Registration Slip which only serves as a reference, should an Applicant seek to replace his/her Voter ID Card. The error does not affect the eligibility of the Voter."

The statement signed by Michael Boadu, Acting Director of Public Affairs at the EC and released on May 8, assured Ghanaians that "the error does not affect the eligibility of the Voter."

He encouraged citizens "to remain steadfast and repose their confidence and trust in the Commission to deliver on its mandate."

The EC said it is committed to conducting free, fair and transparent elections as its mandate states.
