Senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has bemoaned reports of vote-buying during the Ejisu by-election.

Electorates in the Ejisu Constituency went to the polls on Tuesday, April 30, to elect a Member of Parliament (MP) to replace the late MP John Kumah.

During the election, several voters confirmed to reporters that they had received money to vote for certain candidates.

According to Prof. Ransford Gyampo, this shows that Ghana is indeed not broke.

In a post on Facebook, the senior political science lecturer wondered whether money will be shared in the 2024 general election as well.

“The outcome of this By-Election is nothing, but a ridiculous show of vote-buying. I thought we didn’t have money to keep Ghana switched on. Will same money be shared in the 2024 General Elections? Truly, y3 te sika so, nanso )kom di y3n,” Prof. Ransford Gyampo said.

At the end of the Ejisu by-election, candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Boateng emerged victorious, securing 27,782 votes, which accounts for 55.8% of the total votes cast.

Independent Candidate and closest rival, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, garnered 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the total votes.
