The Supreme Court is the highest court that has jurisdiction over all issues that fall under the purview of general jurisdiction courts. The judicial board handles civil cases, administrative cases, economic cases, appellate panel cases, and matters involving military personnel. Akufo Addo, the president of Ghana, is the only political figure to have appointed as many judges to the Supreme Court in the country's political history. Do the people or Akufo Addo gain from these appointments?

Although the Constitution gives the president, who also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghanaian Armed Forces, the authority to select Supreme Court justices to oversee national affairs, we must investigate why, despite having nominated the most judges to the court, Akufo Addo has never seemed satisfied and has continued to add more. Is the president planning a move? Does he make these appointments for the benefit of the oppressed masses or for his own gain?

The NPP deceptively gained power by promising to turn Ghana into the "Dubai of Africa," according to Mahamudu Bawumia, who is now the country’s vice president. Together with Akufo Addo, the current president, and his relative, Ken Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, they succeeded in persuading the populace that John Mahama, the previous leader of Ghana, was incompetent and corrupt. In a nation where tribalism has a strong sway and the ruler's tribe holds greater significance than progress, the NPP quickly assembled a group of supporters to overthrow Mahama in 2016.

The incapacity and pervasive corruption of the NPP government exposed them to being identified as liars, deceivers, and the most corrupt political party in Ghanaian political history, much as Bawumia had claimed, "If the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you." The president's relative, Ken Ofori-Atta; facilitated financial crime to be committed with impunity. This included working with the governor of the Bank of Ghana and printing additional money without the consent of parliament.

Any country where corruption outpaces economic growth experiences economic collapse and skyrocketing commodity prices that hurt the everyday citizenry. The ruling government responds to any challenges from the opposition with counterattacks. The opposition is frequently asked to take their cases to the Supreme Court because they know they will never win since the judges appointed to the Court serve the president, Akufo Addo, and not the people’s interests.

Under Akufo Addo's presidency, the president not only used people but also ruined their lives. Following the background of individuals such as IGP George Dampare, Hopeson Adorye, Kennedy Agyapong, former Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, Bryan Acheampong, etc., it is revealed that they were coerced into taking part in criminal proceedings by Akufo Addo, not because they wanted to or were ready to. The next thing on Akufo Addo's agenda is to use Jean Mensa and the judges of the Supreme Court once again.

Since Akufo Addo lacked proper education, he preferred to use violence and criminality to address his problems. After using Kwasi Anin-Yeboah to prevent Jean Mensa from testifying in court and explain to Ghanaians how she arrived at the numbers that differ from the results that declared Akufo Addo the winner of the 2020 presidential election, the former Chief Justice retired in disgrace, after being accused of accepting a bribe of $5 million. The image of Anin-Yeboah was irreversibly damaged.

Thus, it is surprising that those who are closely associated with Akufo Addo's corruption and illegal activities lack the mental capacity to comprehend how the president exploited people and damaged their lives, necessitating extreme caution to protect themselves and their families. The Supreme Court judges shouldn’t permit Akufo Addo to use them to further his self-interest if he disregards the Constitution and acts whatever pleases him because he thinks he is above the law.

The NPP is committed to using Jean Mensa to rig the elections once again, as it happened in 2020, after which they will advise the opposition to go to court. Sadly, this will end in violence because the majority of Ghanaians are not interested in voting for Bawumia since he failed as vice president. Therefore, the entire nation, which has suffered a great deal, relies on the Supreme Court judges and the police to make sure that there is no election fraud and to prevent any threatening violence.

My humble advice is to never lose sight of the fact that the Supreme Court justices' excellent work will serve as a model for the next administration, which will decide whether or not to keep them on staff and carry on serving the public interest but not a specific political party.
