‘Pope Francis prayed for Ghana and her leaders’ — Bawumia reports on visit to Vatican

Vice President and 2024 NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has met with Pope Francis at the Vatican as part of a working visit to Italy aimed at strengthening ties between Ghana and the Holy See.

The landmark meeting on Wednesday, April 24, gave Dr. Bawumia "the opportunity to discuss many national and global issues with Pope Francis and to strengthen Ghana's longstanding relationship with the Vatican State and the Pope.

This is according to a post by the Vice President on social media following the meeting.

After their discussion, Pope Francis "prayed for Ghana and her leaders," signaling his spiritual support for the West African nation.

In addition to meeting with the Pope, Dr. Bawumia held talks with Vatican Secretary for relations with States and International Organisations, H.E Paul Richard Gallagher.

Cardinal Peter Appiah Turkson, the former Archbishop of Cape Coast and Ghana's first Cardinal, accompanied Dr. Bawumia around the Vatican headquarters.

The Vice President, together with his wife, 2nd Lady Samira Bawumia and other senior officials, left the country on Tuesday night and is expected to return to the country on Thursday, April 25.
