The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of lawlessness.

The opposition party says the government has allowed the newly designated ministers and deputy ministers to assume office without parliamentary approval.

With Parliament currently adjourned indefinitely by the Speaker of Parliament, the ministerial nominees are awaiting vetting and approval by lawmakers.

However, some of the designated ministers have already begun official duties like addressing the media on government issues.

"It is just a reflection of what this government is - a government that believes it can break the law as long as it is politically expedient," said Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC in an interview with Citi News.

Mr Gbande cited the example of the Gender Minister-Designate Darkoa Newman, who addressed the press about the alleged child marriage case despite not yet being approved.

The NDC deputy chief whip warned that the party will hold the unapproved ministers personally liable should their actions result in financial losses to the state.

"This matter is in court, but the president will disregard even legal processes because he believes he has someone in the judiciary to do his bidding," Mr Gbande said.

He questioned the motivation for nominating people whom the government seems unconfident to subject to parliamentary vetting.

“What have they got to hide? Is it because they are so incompetent?" the NDC official asked.
