Stop saying the alternative is worse and fix the overwhelming problems — Prof Gyampo to NPP gov’t

A senior political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has urged the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to focus on solving the country's issues.

To him, it is not necessary for the NPP to push a narrative that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be a worse alternative.

In a Facebook post on Monday, April 22, Prof. Gyampo stressed that it would be better for the ruling party to redeem its lost goodwill by fixing the current major problems facing Ghanaians.

"Let me say quickly that it is not about telling us that the alternative is worse. It is about redeeming the lost goodwill by fixing the current overwhelming problems and allowing Ghanaians to judge," he wrote.

This comes at a time when Ghana is facing significant socio-economic challenges, including intermittent power outages in recent months.

Many consider this a return to the past era of "dumsor" experienced under the previous NDC administration led by John Mahama.

However, the Energy Ministry and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have insisted that load shedding will not be necessary, claiming the power outages stem from technical issues rather than capacity problems.
