A student of the University of Energy and Natural Resources has lost his life after an armed robbery attack on a group of students returning from a field trip on Tuesday evening.
According to a press release from the UENR Registrar’s Office, a group of Level 300 and 400 BSc. Renewable Energy Engineering students were attacked by armed robbers at around 7pm as they returned from visiting the Bui Power Authority.
The statement reads in part: "Tragically, one student lost his life as a result of the incident. The family of the deceased has been notified, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time."
The deceased student’s identity has not been disclosed at this time out of respect for the family.
The remaining students who were with the group received medical treatment at a local hospital and have since been discharged, though they will receive counseling support from the university.
A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the robbery by the Sunyani Police Command Team, according to the release.
Nearby communities have also been urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons to authorities.
