The Minority in Parliament has raised concern about the devastating impact of the ongoing unannounced power outages on the delivery of essential health services across the country.

In a press release, the Minority has charged the Ministry of Energy to exempt all health facilities across the country from any unannounced power outage moving forward.

“The Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with relevant agencies must, without delay, exempt all health facilities nationwide from the current unannounced and unscheduled electricity load shedding and power outages,” the Minority said in a release issued on Thursday, March 28.

The Minority in Parliament also wants the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to audit all alternate power supply systems within health facilities to determine their capacity and reliability in handling electricity disruptions.

It also wants the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to Provide adequate resources for the procurement of fuel and essential inputs necessary for the seamless operation of alternate power supply systems.

Recent unannounced power outages in the country have not only impacted businesses but affected health facilities as well.

Just a few days ago, a newborn allegedly died due to a power outage at the Tema General Hospital.
