This week on Monday, Haitian politician Werley Nortreus reaffirmed that Haiti strongly needs a foreign intervention to secure the country. He urged the Haitians to accept the offer that African countries such as Kenya and other countries in the Caribbean, such as the Bahamas and others, offered the country.

What's Nortreus' comment on foreign intervention in Haiti?

The Haitian government, led by current Prime Minister Ariel Henry, first requested a foreign intervention from the UN and the United States. After the news came out, mostly Haitians in Haiti and the Diaspora opposed a foreign intervention by the United States in Haiti because of past UN failures.

However, Nortreus was the very first Haitian politician who suggested that a foreign intervention from Canada, Africa, Russia, France, and CARICOM should be included to see the outcome after most Haitians opposed an intervention by the United States to the country.

"For the insecurity to stop in Haiti, I think that France, African countries, the African Union, Russia, Canada, others, and countries that are members of CARICOM must accept the request of the UN and send a quick armed force to secure the country before the Haitian people establish the new constitution for a fair election," said Nortreus to local newspaper South Florida Caribbean News last year.

Positive feedback from Africa and CARICOM on Haiti

This year, in July, the government of Kenya said that they were ready to send at least 1000+ of their soldiers to the country to help bring order to the chaos. Haitian Prime Minister Ariel spoke to the President of Kenya, William Ruto, about this. According to some sources, Nortreus and other Haitian politicians welcomed Kenya and the Bahama's offer.

A few days later after the Kenyan government spoke to Ariel, a Kenyan delegation visited the country before sending their soldiers, according to other sources. After their government offered an intervention to secure the country, a Kenyan delegation came to the Caribbean country before sending their soldiers. The delegation met with the Haitian government and the police chief and discussed how they could help.

This week, on Monday, Nortreus said that the country strongly needs a foreign intervention to help stop violence and crimes there. He said Haitians should accept Africa and CARICOM's offerings. He also said it is the responsibility of the UN, Haitian government, Kenya, Bahamas, and others to negotiate how much this will cost in total and then find out how this will be planned, as they did in 2004 when President Jean-Bertrand Aristide was in power to prevent future failures or risks. He also said that he is very happy to see Haiti and Africa unite again.

"Haiti is the country in the Caribbean with the most crimes committed by criminals and their accomplices. Finally, the Haitian government signed an agreement that would offer the country's citizens constitutional reform, security, and a general election so that a new government and President could rise to power. I think the agreement is the right path for the country that can lead it on the road to development if taken seriously, even if it will not be easy. The country really needs an intervention to help reduce violence and crimes. It is the responsibility of the UN, the Haitian government, to negotiate with countries that are interested in order to prevent future failures or risks. I am urging Haitians to accept the offer of Kenya, Bahamas, and other countries that are interested. I am so happy to see Haiti and Africa unite again", Nortreus said this week on Monday.
