The Musicians Association of Ghana (MUSIGA) is plagued with several problems, most of which has been with it for a very long time. Some of these structural and institutional problems no doubt will take several months or even years to fix. The associated has infighting and several internal polities like several other institutions. One would think that for an industry which is almost bankrupt all hands will be on deck to help keep the good left and build on it but no instead there are accusations and counter accusations by very respected people in the industry every time. MUSIGA has not been the same after the election of the present administration with Ms. Diana Hopeson been the President.

Pinnaclegh.com will in the coming weeks point out very little yet essential changes and basic structures it believes will help solve some of the problems of the association and by extension the Ghanaian Music Industry. We believe that the association has not handled very minute problems but is seeking to tackle the very big problems of the industry. First we take a look at the information management systems within the association. Music goes beyond the borders of Ghana, In an industry where most of the funds that come in or are accessible are from donor countries and partners, you would expect that our acts are put right. Today, one only need to type in an address and the individual should and would have access to information needed. Websites and the internet have become such powerful tools that it should not be taken for granted. However, it appears MUSIGA does not see it to be as important as it has become in our lives. The website of MUSIGA is an outright shame and should be changed immediately.

In an art industry one would have expected better designs and layout and proper structuring. For concept, design and layout on a scale of 0 – 10, MUSIGA's official website will scare 0.5 at most. There are artistes who are or have been members of MUSIGA with limited resource who build websites with better designs and more information. In terms of information MUSIGA's website is not out to it and the design is not acceptable. If we seek to tackle huge problems we should probably start with these very small changes and when we have mastered them we can move on to solving bigger problems. Before doing the story, we decided to check out websites of other music associations around the globe, we checked that of the United Kingdom, that of the United States and compared it to ours. What did we find? As much as most of them were not necessarily fancy they were decent, appropriate and carried gave one a good image of these associations.

May be your are thinking, the standards are too high, well that's what we also thought, so we decided to check out that of Nigeria and it was amazing compared to what MUSIGA has. MUSIGA should immediately build a site to project the association and our industry in the light it should be. We have provided below the Web addresses of MUSIGA, the Nigerian Musicians Association and that of the UK for your comparison. http://www.musiga.org http://mainng.com/about_us.html
