Ghanaian Rapper, Victor Mawuli Orleans-Fiaka, known in the entertainment industry as Gemini has attributed the escalation of ‘beefs’ (feuds) among rappers to media representation of lyric and style.

The rapper who called on Sarkodie and Manifest to make peace after their seemingly lyrical war with his ‘Cease fire’ single that the media often misinterprets contents and style of MCs.

Gemini insists this posture by the media could mar the beauty of the hip-hop genre.

“When you listen to me rap, you will think I have a problem with somebody because I am aggressive when I rap but that just my style and Sarkodie has an attacking style, tackles issues. If you listen to my rap, you will think I am very emotional… but that’s me, I rap aggressively, I attack it,” he said.

He adds, “Sarkodie tackles issue, Manifest is cool, calm, intellect you have to think to get it so you might be misreading and think they are emotionally attached but maybe it is just because of their distinct styles. But at the end of the day it could get worse because of media and how it is portraying this thing so they should just be careful and know how to handle their fan base.”

Gemini opined that the hip-hop genre has a culture which accommodates beefs but added that Ghanaian need to be discerning to appreciate how rappers communicate.

“You guys [media] need to understand what we say, the context in which we say it because there is a lot of misreading, the interpretations of everybody’s line…We now need to understand how rappers communicate, we communicate with metaphors, similes and punch lines”.

Beefing in hip-hop is politics, he says.
