The new lawyer handling the drug-related trial of reggae musician Ekow Micah has hinted that he wants to recall the prosecution witnesses in the case.

The prosecution, led by Moses Atibillah, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), had led two witnesses to testify in the case before an Accra Circuit Court.

They are D/Cprls Evans Adu and Richard Ayayi, both from the Airport Police Station.

But Andy Kudzo Vortia, the new lawyer in the trial, said that he intends to recall the witnesses who had already testified in the case.

The two prosecution witnesses gave evidence in the case and were cross-examined by David Merson who has since withdrawn his services in respect of the case.

Andy stated that he had also written to the court for the records of proceedings in order to enable him represent the accused.

He said he was still chasing the records which he described as very crucial to the determination of the case.

The trial judge, Aboagye Tandoh, wondered how the prosecutor intended to recall the witnesses if he had not yet received the records of proceedings and did not know what had transpired so far.

He said that he was not going to entertain any delays in the trial, adding that the case would be adjourned until October 13, 2015 to enable Andy take the necessary procedure to get the records.

Earlier, ACP Atibillah told the court that the prosecution was ready with their third witness.

He said the court could take the evidence of the witness, noting that it had nothing to do with the records of proceedings Micah's lawyer was requesting from the court.

The trial judge however adjourned hearing.
The reggae musician has denied the charge of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority and is currently on remand.

At the initial stages of the trial, ACP Atibillah said Micah is a resident of Ogbojo, near Kokrobite in Accra.

He said on August 4 Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigation.

ACP Atibillah said the following day, at about 1130 hours, the Police and the accused person visited Micah's house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah's backpack.
