Nana Ama Odame Okyere, the second runner – up in the 2014 Ghana’s Most Beautiful contest and Ghana’s representative of the Miss Earth World contest, 2014 has launched her foundation, the “Ama Odame Okyere Foundation”, to help protect the environment at Alisa Hotel in Accra over the weekend.

The foundation is a non – profit making organization aimed at promoting good sanitation, a healthy environment and environmentally – friendly mining activities devoid of child labour.

It has the motto “A Clean Environment, A Healthy people and seek to create awareness of the environment through education and sensitization programmes.

Speaking at the launch which was well attended by queen mothers, members of parliament and prominent people in the society, the beauty queen said the youth will be the main force to drive the quest for a healthy environment.

”It is believes that the youth must be conscious of their environment and so as a new generation they must be educated and enlightened on issues of the environment”.

According to her, the foundation will embark on various initiatives such as engaging heads of junior high schools and primary schools and establishing environmental fun clubs as extra curricula activity in the schools.

“We will engage traditional leaders and gracing cultural events to speak with gatherings on issues of the environment” she added.

She averred that, the foundation will also embark on community outreaches to speak with the members on cultivating a good sanitation habit and a healthy environment.

Managing Director of Cocoa Marketing Limited, who was the chairman of the occasion said the project embark on by the beauty queen is a viable project which will go a long way to benefit the country at large.

He, therefore, appealed to all well-meaning Ghanaians to come to the support of the foundation to make their dream come to reality.

About Ama
She was the second runner – up in the 2014 TV3 Ghana’ Most beautiful contest. She was also Ghana’s representative in the 2014 Miss Earth World.

Having issues of the environment at heart, she studied Environmental Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

She has passion for saving the Ghanaian environment and was driven by this passion to participate in the various pageants to gain the exposure and platform to carry out her vision.

She hopes that by next year 2016 the state of the environment and the sanitation status of Ghana will see a facelift.
